Hello All,
Firstly, an apology to those I wasn’t able to speak to since announcing my decision to step down so I thought it best to address everyone together in this brief letter of thanks and gratitude, not simply a goodbye.
Taking the decision to step down was certainly not easy and I’m sure I’ll start experiencing withdrawal symptoms pretty soon! I've experienced three fantastic years at the club which will be forever cherished. Three years in which together we have overseen the development of this fantastic set of boys and I'm sure that with your continued support, Andy will lead the team on to greater success in the near future.
I want to thank all you, the parents and supporters, from the bottom of my heart for how well you have treated me from the very first day to the last. You all made me feel at ease right from the word go and always offered words of encouragement which was most appreciated. Your support is the thing that ensures that this team manages to pull through in the most difficult circumstances; and I can assure you that the whole squad including Andy, Jonny and I were aware of this and thank you for it.
I also want to thank Laura for recruiting me and the committee for giving me the opportunity to be part of a club which has admirable values.
I have learned much as a coach and without a doubt, this evolution has only been possible thanks to the outstanding effort from the group of players who readily accepted the ideas and responded with some memorable performances. The strength of this team lies in the collective and when they all perform together they are a fantastic team to watch. The challenge from herein is to find that consistency whilst continuing to develop their basic skills during this “golden age” of learning.
I wish the Club and this group of players in particular the very best and hope they all go on to achieve great success in the future. I'll be following the team from a distance, with the pride that you can only get from having been a Pirate.
Thanks to all of you for your help and your friendship. I'm sure we'll meet again....
